The Welsh Assembly Labour Government can be proud having developed an app for smart phones, called ‘Choose Well’ which gives helpful personal health hints and directions to health services. However can they be proud of the cost of this project? which at £26,000 may not seem like a great deal until you discover that the app has been downloaded a paltry 1,183 times since July.
While the app is free to download, if you were to work out the number of downloads in relation to the projects cost the app would cost £22 per person. While the notion behind the project obviously is well intentioned to promote healthier lifestyle with the belief that this shall reduce the burden upon the NHS, unless there is greater promotion of the app the low uptake will make the project poor value for money.
If like me, you think this project does not deliver value for money don’t hesitate to let Welsh Health Minister Lesley Griffiths know.
