Today the joint Metropolitan Police and NSPCC report into the scale of sexual offending committed by Jimmy Savile has been published. The report ‘Giving Victims a Voice’ details what the joint investigation has uncovered since the revelations about Savile three months ago.
The report identifies abuse having occurred over a fifty year period involving children as young as eight years old. The Metropolitan police and the NSPCC have concluded that Jimmy Savile was a prolific predatory sex offender with an unprecedented scale of abuse across the UK.
Savile is recorded as committing rape at least 34 times, while 73% of his victims were children under the age of 18.
However with abusing occurring over such a large period of time it does raise the question how Savile managed to evade exposure and being brought to justice?
